Why We Need Holistic Thinking More Than Ever Before
Human Bias, How AI Systems Are Mirroring Us, and Why Holism May Be The Solution
This article will be more technical and less spiritual than others, but bear with me. The insights here could shift your perspective on AI and perhaps lessen any fear about the future — Give yourself the motivation to actually start and be the change you truly want to see in this world.
Together, we can make the world a better and easier place. So please, give this a shot! Ready? Here we go.
Humans are biased, and so is artificial intelligence.
Holistic thinking in human and artificial life will be the way to go in the future if we don’t want a larger catastrophe induced by the growing power that artificial intelligence gets and grows into.
I am 22 years old. I grew up with all this new technology, and as a system engineer in information technology, I can roughly calculate where things are going.
Artificial intelligence is (kind of) a mirror of human behavior.
We are building machines that think like us, but they will also be biased based on how we programmed them, the data we feed them, and the data they receive through their digital “sensors”, at least until the technological singularity.
So, this bias, this dark side of AI, is a reflection of our own shadow self.
As humans, we have our dark side too, which, in spiritual circles, we address through shadow work.
This process, as described by Jung, integrates our shadow selves with our physical ego, encompassing fears and “lower” emotions, such as anger, fear, hate, shame, guilt, or envy.
But when will AI recognize its own ‘dark side’, considering it’s fed with our biases? Will it help us recognize our own shadow or flawed nature?
Holistic thinking aims to encapsulate the whole picture, including the shadow aspects of ourselfes and AI.
So How Exactly Do We Overcome All of This, as Individuals and Collectively?
